Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has committed to a two-year contract extension with the club, effectively putting to rest any speculation about a return to the Italy national team.
The 67-year-old had been tipped as a candidate for the vacant Italy managerial role following Gennaro Gattuso’s resignation last week, after Italy failed to qualify for a third consecutive men’s World Cup.
Spalletti originally took charge of Juventus on a short-term deal in October, replacing Igor Tudor, who was dismissed.
“From the moment Luciano joined our great Juventus family, he has had an immediate and deeply positive influence on our players, the entire club, and the whole Bianconeri community,” Juventus CEO Damien Comolli said in a statement. “It became clear to everyone right away that Luciano was the right person to guide the team on a path of growth.”
The former Roma and Inter Milan boss guided Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years in 2023, before leaving that summer to take over the Italian national team. His Italy side were eliminated in the round of 16 at Euro 2024, and he was sacked in June 2025 following a 3-0 World Cup qualifier defeat to Norway.
In March last year, Spalletti stated that Napoli would be the last Italian club he would ever coach.
Juventus currently sit fifth in the Serie A standings with 57 points, just one point outside the Champions League places with seven games remaining.
